Positives:
LPG is on average 50-60% cheaper to buy than Petrol and 60-70% cheaper than Diesel
LPG is better for your engine and exhaust as it has no harmful additives such as lead (found in petrol and Diesel) hence prolongs engine life. The only additive to LPG is the smell for identification purposes.
LPG emits 20% less C02 than petrol cars
The 2008 budget promises not to increase duty by more than 1p / litre on LPG until 2011. There are no promises on petrol or diesel
LPG is now available at over 1 in 5 UK garages (over 1400) and there are many other filling stations besides this
Running on LPG is quieter, uses less oil due to reduced engine temperature, and can be switched back to petrol even when driving
There is a surplus of LPG in the UK and NO SHORTAGE of supply – LPG is here to stay
VED (car tax) is reduced for LPG converted vehicles
Zero London Congestion charge for all vehicles on the ‘Powershift register’
Increases the re-sale value of your vehicle when you want to sell
Negatives:
x Not every garage has it (yet)
x You may lose some boot space to accommodate the tank. Alternatively you may utilise the spare wheel space, have an under-slung tank or have your existing tank converted
x You will achieve around 10% less MPG on LPG
x It takes a little longer to fill up on LPG, but worth the wait for the savings!
